Employees’ data exposed in SLR Consulting data breach

  • Posted on

Sensitive personal data of current and former employees of environmental consulting firm SLR Consulting may be at risk following a cyber attack on the company’s IT infrastructure.

The company has notified former employee’s that their systems suffered an unauthorised access by a third-party earlier this year. Hayes Connor believe this affects current employee’s data too. SLR became aware of the breach on 28 February 2021 but did not notify persons affected by the breach until two months later.

Data copied from their servers could include:

  • Names
  • Dates of birth
  • Genders
  • Addresses
  • Telephone numbers
  • Salary and benefits
  • National insurance numbers
  • Health and disability information
  • ID details (including passports, driving licences, visas and/or birth certificates)
  • Names and contact details of emergency employees’ contacts and beneficiaries

The data includes sensitive special category data and identifying documents that pose a real threat of identity fraud and other types of fraudulent activity and financial crime.

Current and former employees of SLR Consulting should be highly concerned about the potential risk from their data being exposed.

Anyone affected by the SLR Consulting data breach should be extremely cautious about the risk of falling victim to cyber crime. It is also worth considering that you may be entitled to compensation, even if you do not suffer any direct harm as a result of the breach.

At Hayes Connor, we are ready to advise anyone who may have been affected by the SLR Consulting data breach about their right to compensation. Please get in touch if you wish to discuss the details of your case with our data breach experts.

What to do if you are worried about the SLR Consulting data breach

SLR should have already contacted anyone affected by the breach. However, this is normally done by letter or email and these can be easily missed. If you are a current or former SLR employee and have not been contacted, you should contact the firm directly to establish whether your data may have been exposed.

If your data has been put at risk, you must be alert to the potential for cyber crime. Criminals could use your data for financial fraud and they may attempt to contact you in ‘phishing attacks’ to try to extract further information from you. This can happen through emails, phone calls and other types of communications, so it is important to be vigilant.

If your data was exposed due to the SLR Consulting data breach, you should also consider whether you might be owed compensation. The team at Hayes Connor will be happy to discuss this with you and explain how we can help.
