Sandicliffe Data Breach – Cyber Criminals Access Personal Data

  • Posted on

The East Midlands car dealership Sandicliffe have informed staff and former staff of a data breach that took place in February, resulting in personal data falling into the hands of cyber criminals.

Multiple staff and former staff have received correspondence from Sandicliffe to inform them of the situation, explaining that a sophisticated cybersecurity incident led to a small number of employees having their mailboxes accessed by an unauthorised third-party.

This meant that sensitive personal data including names, addresses, phone numbers, passport information and bank account details were exposed. It is unclear whether the breach also included customer data.

Sandicliffe have claimed that, as soon as they became aware of the situation, they took immediate steps to contain it and subsequently launched a full investigation.

The car dealership has not yet revealed how exactly the cybercriminals were able to access the employee emails, but they declared that they have been successful in containing the breach.

Can you claim compensation for the Sandicliffe data breach?

If you were affected by the Sandicliffe data breach, then the dealership should have already contacted you to inform you of the situation.

Any company that holds people’s personal data has a legal duty to put in place measures that ensures this data is stored securely. If a company fails to enforce such measures and a breach occurs, anyone whose data is exposed potentially has a claim for data breach compensation.

It is important to note that you do not need to have suffered a financial loss to be entitled to compensation. Having your data exposed can be a traumatic experience and it is possible to claim for this emotional distress.
